Youth Art Month Exhibition
Through April 4
This year the Portland Museum of Art is proud to celebrate 16 years of hosting the Maine Art Education Association’s annual Youth Art Month exhibition. This exhibition displays more than 100 works of art by students from around the state, in recognition of the value and importance art education plays in Maine schools. It is a treat each year to exhibit the work of these talented students—mark your calendars and make a special trip to the Museum to get an exciting glimpse of the future of the art world.
LearningWorks Afterschool in the Museum:
See Yourself in the Collection Student Art Exhibition
April 9 through May 2, Museum Café
Since fall 2009, the Museum has partnered with LearningWorks Afterschool to bring third, fourth, and fifth grade students from Reiche and East End Elementary Schools to the Museum for a series of thematic tours and studio classes. This exhibition features the students' self-portrait prints inspired by last fall’s exhibition Evolution: Five Decades of Printmaking by David C. Driskell as well as clay "objects of wonder" inspired by the current exhibition Objects of Wonder: Four Centuries of Still Life from the Norton Museum of Art.
Still Life 2.0: Casco Bay High School Student Art Exhibition
May 7 through June 6, Museum Café
Enjoy a contemporary take on the still-life genre as seen through the work of Casco Bay High School students. Ninth graders in Peg Richard’s Art I class visited the Museum to view the Objects of Wonder exhibition and were inspired to consider the role of objects in their own lives and how objects take on a sense of meaning and importance.
Exhibition for Children: Child's Play
Ongoing, McLellan House
Looking for a fun place to bring your kids? Child’s Play is the Museum’s first interactive exhibition for kids and families. Child’s Play allows families to take a trip back into the 1800s with interactive displays just for kids. Kids can try on costumes and pretend to pose for a portrait, play with 19th-century games and toys, look at optical illusions, sketch curiosities, and entertain themselves with old-fashioned tongue twisters.

The Telling Room and the Museum collaborate to paint pictures with words in the exhibition Objects of Wonder.
